Sympathy for the Devil

Rolling Stones

Please allow me to introduce myself
I’m a man of wealth and taste
I’ve been around for a long long year stolen many a man’s soul and faith
I was around Jesus Christ had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that Pilate washed his hands and sealed his fate
Pleased to meet you hope you guess my name
But what’s puzzling you is the nature of my game

Stuck around St. Petersburg when I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the Tzar and his ministers; Anastaria screamed in vain
I rode a tank held a gen’rals rank when the blitzkrieg
raged and the bodies stank
Pleased to meet you hope your guess my name, oh yeah
Ah what’s puzzling you is the nature of my game, oh yeah

I watched the glee while your kings and queens fought for
ten decades for the Gods they made
I shouted out “who killed the Kennedy’s?” when after all it was you and me
Let me please introduce myself I’m a man of wealth and taste
And I lay traps for troubadors who get killed before they reach Bombay

Pleased to meet you hope you guess my name, oh yeah
But what’s puzzling you is the nature of my game, oh yeah

Pleased to meet you hope you guess my name
But what’s confusin you is just the nature of my game

Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails
Just call me Lucifer
‘Cause I’m in need of some restraint

So if you meet me Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I’ll lay your soul to waste, um yeah

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, um yeah
But what’s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, um mean it, get down

Woo, who
Oh yeah, get on down
Oh yeah
Oh yeah!

Tell me baby, what’s my name
Tell me honey, can ya guess my name
Tell me baby, what’s my name
I tell you one time, you’re to blame

oh, who
woo, woo
Woo, who
Woo, woo
Woo, who, who
Woo, who, who
Oh, yeah

What’s my name
Tell me, baby, what’s my name
Tell me, sweetie, what’s my name

Woo, who, who
Woo, who, who
Woo, who, who
Woo, who, who
Woo, who, who
Woo, who, who
Oh, yeah
Woo woo
Woo woo

Just a song that I love to play, especially during this time of the year, when we’re about to celebrate the moslem fasting month, the month of Ramadhan. Don’t get me wrong, I personally loved the scene during the fasting month. Hell, I even like to fast my self.

Yet I hate, yes I hate all the hypocrisy that also goes with this so-called Holy Month. What hypocrisy you might asked. All I can say is look around you.

See how we asked each other forgiveness for our mistake, but do we sincerely feels that? See how we goes fasting during the day and go partying afterward. See how some of us, under the banner of religious observant destroy other people livehoods. See how we used the false pretense of religious ritual observance to indulge our hedonism and feast on our materialistic way of living.

Ah, just look around my friends and neighboors, look around, use your heart, not just your eyes. And you’ll see as I see, and feels as I feels.

Sorry to says, while admittedly, there’s people who really being observant of the fasting month, and sincerely just wish for His blessing. There’s just too many of those who just goes for the physical ritual and forgot/neglect about the spiritual meaning of those ritual.

While it might be said that the devil is chained in hell during this month, let me tell you this, they still reign here on earth. In fact they even goes deeper into our soul. For the real devil is none other than ourselves.

Might not be my place to says what I says, but hey, I’m still free to express my opinion right. So for this coming month, let me just hum this song in respect for the hypocrisy, and let me embrace my Devil.
